Rev’d Alan Ashton

Alan Ashton

I am a Methodist Minister, now retired, and came to live in Cambridge three years ago. I have served all my ministry in our East Anglia District. My first appointment was for 8 years in the then Thetford Circuit, living in Mildenhall. I moved to the Cromer & Sheringham Circuit, as it then was, for 12 years and finally came to the then Newmarket Circuit where I spent 9 years before moving to Cambridge. My three children are all married and I have 7 grandchildren.

I have been working with Castle Street Methodist Church as their minister since early March 2011 and will continue until 31st August 2012 when a new minister will be appointed.

Outside of church life my great PASSION is Flower Arranging and I am Secretary of the Burwell & District Flower Club. I am generally NOT around on the 2nd Thursday in each month - it's my Flower Club night and an eagerly looked forward to event in my routine. I listen to Classic FM when possible and am fond of opera and ballet, attending whenever I can manage it, or when I can afford it! History & reading biographies is much enjoyed also.

I look back at 29 years of "active" ministry and at the Church today and I would very much still want it to be a Church that was a Missionary church, a Compassionate church, a Learning church, an Expectant church, an Inclusive church, a Generous church and a Prophetic church.
