A must for lovers of books and libraries, this wide ranging talk by Mark Purcell of the University Library draws on his recent acclaimed book on the history of the great country house libraries of Britain and Ireland, to argue that many were profoundly scholarly collections, assembled with great care and widely used for intellectual studies.
This event is part of the Spring programme of hour-long talks and recitals at St. Augustine's Church and Community Centre. Entry is normally free, although a small charge or retiring collection may be held where fees are requested by the speaker.
