January 2025 – Major Renovation Work Starts

St Giles’ will be undergoing quite extensive renovation work to the windows and gutters on the north and south aisles during at least the first six months of the year and the work has already started.

Shuttered scaffolding was erected along the south side (garden side) of the building during December last year. Now scaffolding is being installed inside below the clerestory windows, around the south nave pillars and on the south side of the chancel. The plan is for the main south door, disabled access door, vestry, kitchenette and toilet to remain accessible except for a few day times when windows are being removed or replaced. Once the work on the south side is completed the clerestory windows and guttering on the north side will be repaired in a similar fashion.

This work has been enabled by generous grants from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust. We hope to keep the church open daily unless active building work makes that impossible.

July 2025 – Further Fundraising for St Giles’ Restoration

At St Giles’ Church (opposite Kettle’s Yard) the gutters, many of the windows and their masonry surrounds are being renovated urgently, to safeguard their structural integrity.
The work has been funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Fund and St Giles’ building reserves.

With scaffolding in place and craftspeople engaged there is an opportunity also to renovate some of the adjacent weathered masonry before that deteriorates more – this is much more cost effective if it is done at the same time. We plan to do as much of the extra restoration as funding will allow, starting with those parts that overlook the garden.

Please help us to raise the extra £30,000 needed to renovate this stonework for this and future generations. You can donate online at www.fosgc.org/about-3
or visit St Giles and use the facilities to make a cash or contactless card donation inside.
